Aflatoxins: Biosynthesis and Methods of Biological Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aflatoxins, the naturally occurring mycotoxins are produced by many species of Aspergillus, a fungus, especially Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. They contaminate several food commodities including cereals, peanuts and crops. Being highly toxic and carcinogenic in nature, the aflatoxins are reported to be involved in various health complications including liver cancer. This review presents the detailed discussion of aflatoxin production and various biological control methods of them so that their lethal effects could be minimized. L.K. Discovery of the aflatoxins focused attention on an old problem and gave tremendous impetus to research on mycotoxins. This resulted in unparalleled collaboration of specialists in diverse scientific disciplines and brought to hear the most sophisticated tools and techniques. The chemical structures of eight afiatoxins have been established. Several have been synthesized chemically and their bi...
متن کاملGlobal Phosphoproteomic Analysis Reveals the Involvement of Phosphorylation in Aflatoxins Biosynthesis in the Pathogenic Fungus Aspergillus flavus
Aspergillus flavus is a pathogenic fungus that produces toxic and carcinogenic aflatoxins and is the causative agent of aflatoxicosis. A growing body of evidence indicates that reversible phosphorylation plays important roles in regulating diverse functions in this pathogen. However, only a few phosphoproteins of this fungus have been identified, which hampers our understanding of the roles of ...
متن کاملExpression of aflR, veA and laeA as regulators of aflatoxins and cyclopiazonic acid biosynthesis pathway in Aspergillus flavus
In this study, the production of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) was investigated in toxigenic and non-toxigenic Aspergillus flavus with respect to expression of aflR, veA and laeA genes that are involved to toxins production. A. flavus strains were cultured in YES broth at 28 °C for 4 days and the presence of (AFB1) and (CPA) was confirmed and measured by TLC and HPLC. The exp...
متن کاملReduction of Aflatoxin M1 in Milk Using Kefir Starter
Background: Mycotoxins naturally occur in foods. Aflatoxins can cause serious health problems in consumers. Nowadays, biological detoxification method is considered to decrease the aflatoxins level in foods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of kefir starter microorganisms to decrease the aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) levels in milk. Methods: The study was carried out at Shabestar branch,...

Mycotoxins are fungal secondary metabolites that if ingested can cause a variety of adverse effects on both humans and animals.Aflatoxins are cancerogenic compounds produced predominantly by certain strains of the Aspergillus genus. They have immunosuppressive, mutagenic, teratogenic and carcinogenic effects, especially on the liver. A variety of physical, chemical and biological methods have b...
